Turning 35

For the past few years I legitimately couldn't remember how old I was and would have to do the math every time. I'm thinking 35 is a solid easy number to remember and I think it's gonna be a good year! This is what 35 looks like!

This week started off crazy. Monday was chill, but Tuesday was when the madness started.  I somehow managed to get put in charge of Box Tops at the elementary school and was invited to a meeting along with all the surrounding schools to hear a presentation from headquarters. They are switching the program from cutting out clips on boxes to scanning receipts and it was interesting to hear why they are switching it up and upcoming changes to the program. Houston is roughly a 30 min drive with no traffic but it took a solid hour to get there by 9:00am. By the time I got home I had enough time to eat and pick up kids from school! Once we got home it was off to Activity Days and Scouts.

Wednesday I had to attend the PTO board meeting to report back what I had learned the day before and ended up spending the majority of the day helping out in the PTO room. Mutual was that night and afterwards we had a meeting, because of course we did! I work with the greatest women in Young Womens. They surprised me with cake, ice cream, flowers and some of my favorite treats to take home. I felt pretty special that they even remembered it was my birthday week!

Thursday was my birthday! Elliott woke up really early and surprised us with donuts before he left for work. Brandon had a field trip that day that I signed up to chaperone for. Even though it was 95 degrees with 95% humidity I'm glad I went! Spring, TX was settled by some families from Germany. Their original farm and homes have been kept and all 4th graders take a field trip there to learn about them. I thought it was pretty fascinating. They had people dressed up in the houses pretending to be the family members and shared stories about these families. It's because of them our schools have German names like Schindlewolf, Zwink, Hildebrant, Dotte etc named after the founding families. This isn't the greatest picture but my goodness it was warm and muggy out there!

That evening we went to Mod Pizza. The first time I had gone was with Brandon a couple weeks prior and knew everyone would think it's fun to choose their own toppings. We had a good time all together. I honestly feel like I will look back on this time in my life and miss it. I love the kids at this age and enjoy being with them. The only thing I would change is having Elliott home more, but I think we're getting there.

Elliott took the day off Friday so we could just hang out and it was perfect. We found this little breakfast joint not too long ago and hit it up whenever he has a day off. Then we went shopping and I got 2 dresses and an outfit. That evening we went to see Joker and I didn't like it! Everyone is raving about it and while I understand the performance is great, I don't like how they portrayed Joker. I think of him as smart, manipulative, charismatic but scary as heck,  in this movie he was weak and almost mildly retarded. While we were disappointed with the movie I just love going to the movies regardless.

The next couple days we just chilled and watched conference. Perfect ending to a perfect week. I'm excited about all the changes, I feel we get to experience it first hand since I'm in the YW presidency, Elliott is in the bishopric and Audrey is stepping into YW this January.

Happy New Year!

We thought we’d bring some new energy to 2021 by completely tearing our house apart and getting our carpets cleaned. The cleaners were scheduled for December 30th, so we pulled everything out of bedrooms and gave the walls and baseboards a good scrub. In order to allow the carpets time to dry we didn’t want to walk on them so we used Elliott’s points and got a hotel up in the Woodlands. We stayed at the Marriott along the waterway and it was beautiful. There ended up being a storm that night which was unfortunate because we weren’t able to walk down the waterway and enjoy the whole scene up there. We ordered Shake Shack from Uber Eats and watched Hook all snuggled up in our beds. It was a perfect evening.  Once we returned home we got to work putting bedrooms back together then later that night celebrated the new year! It’s become tradition for us to do taste tests with the kids blindfolded. We did different flavored oreo’s and ice drinks. We ordered Buffalo Wild Wings and wa...

Good Morning

Our kids don't sleep in. If they make it past 6:30 it's an extremely rare occasion. The problem with this is that Pete and I are not exactly morning folk. We make goals that say we will be in bed before 10pm, but after a week or so we are back to staying up way to late. Having Netflix is not helping either. We love watching documentaries and could watch them all night long. Every morning looks a little something like this. Our kids full of energy and ready to conquer the day, while Pete and I are wanting to kill ourselves.

December

There are a lot of words that could be used to describe 2020. Unpredictable, scary, death, political insanity, isolation, divisive, racial inequality, quarantine, masks etc. etc. It was really rough for us around June-October when we had no idea whether or not Elliott would have a job. Thankfully we were one of the lucky ones that didn't get furloughed. Financially speaking our biggest hit was that overtime was cut. We had big plans of paying off a lot of debt from law school and going on our first family trip to Disneyworld. Without that overtime we make about $2,000 less a month and it's quite a hit, but we are making it work. We canceled our Disneyworld trip and are living paycheck to paycheck but had Elliott been furloughed for an undermined amount of time I don't know what we would have done. I know there are many families in that situation and I wish we were in a position to offer some assistance instead of treading water. I feel very blessed and fortunate for where w...
