We celebrated Melanie's 8th birthday this last week. Unfortunately due to the Corona Virus we have had to postpone her baptism and her birthday party at the trampoline park. We were given instruction that stake baptisms have been canceled but we can perform a small baptism with less that 10. My parents really want to be here for her baptism and traveling isn't really possible so as of right now we are just waiting for things to calm down before decided on what to do.
We did our best to make her birthday special under the circumstances. We were able to find her favorite breakfast which is eggo waffles with strawberries and whip cream. I was shocked there were any Eggo's left at the store! We had planned an outdoor scavenger hunt, but it basically rained all day! She still went out with an umbrella to find a few things. We played hide and go seek, had pizza for dinner, watched Frozen 2 and had an ice cream cake from DQ.
On Saturday Pete had the day off of work so he took her through the Chick Fil A drive through then to Walmart to have her pick out her new bike then they headed to the park to play catch. She had the best time with him and loved having a day for a daddy daughter date. As crazy as this whole thing is I hope she was able to feel special.
Melanie is the perfect book end to our family. She keeps us on our toes and we love her adventurous free spirit!
We have begun homeschooling since school isn't scheduled to start back up for 3 more weeks. We will not be surprised if it's canceled through the rest of the school year. So far it's been pretty good. I wish Pete could be here to assist Brandon while I work with Melanie. We may get that wish since a Stay at Home order has just been made for Houston that begins tonight. We are only allowed to leave our home to go to the store or doctor. Fast food or curbside restaurants are also open at this time. We can also go for walks, but other than that there will be a fine if we leave. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but Pete will most likely be working even though he is home. We don't have an office which is going to make things a bit tricky!
The district is doing a free food pick up for kids 18 and younger. There were 4 schools in the entire district that offered it last week and it was CRAZY! The first day we went we were about 10 cars too late and had to leave with no food, the next day we barely made it. They got a whole weeks worth of breakfasts and lunches. I think we have enough food here at home, but it makes me feel better knowing they are definitely taken care of for lunches and breakfasts, we have food for dinner and I'm mostly just eating the left overs for lunch. Store shelves are still very bare. There is food still there, but you can't make a normal weekly menu and go shopping for those ingredients because the options are very sparse.
A part of our daily schedule is creative time. Brandon had gotten 2 car kits for Christmas and was able to sit down and assemble those.
Each of the kids classes have started to connect on Zoom at least once a week. This is Melanie connected to her class for the first time and seeing some of her friends.
Despite all the craziness this has cause and how much it has disrupted our lives, we are doing good! We have food, Pete still has a job, and we are all healthy. I tend to get a bit anxious about it at times and my chest will start to get tight. It's just unbelievable to look around and see that we are in the middle of a global pandemic, the stock market is crashing and Utah got hit with a pretty decent sized earthquake. It's unclear how this is going to effect our future. I'd like to hope things will go back to normal once this is over but I don't know if that's being too naive. It's more likely this is going to cause an impact for some time.
