Halloween

 We had such a busy October that we decided instead of spreading out all our Halloween traditions throughout the end of the month we would do them all on Halloween. Carve pumpkins, make cookies, get a pizza shaped like a pumpkin from Papa Johns and watch Hocus Pocus. We had no idea that EVERYONE would be sold out of pumpkins on Halloween. We had visited 2 pumpkin patches this month and didn't pick up pumpkins because I figured we would just stop by Walmart and pick some up when we were ready to carve. That was a huge mistake. Elliott and I spent hours driving around to Kroger, Walmart, Home Depot. Making phone calls to pumpkin patches and other stores and everyone was out. We decided to give Ace Hardware a shot before heading home and low and behold there was ONE pumpkin. One pumpkin with a rotting hole in the middle of it. We had convinced Audrey and Brandon to paint a small pumpkin this year since there were plenty of those but Melanie was adamant that she wanted a real pumpkin to carve. I couldn't believe there was one lone pumpkin waiting for us but this whole escapade took a couple hours and I was feeling so bummed. We had the whole day planned out and this really messed up our plans and I was feeling a bit defeated. Elliott decided to swing by Starbucks to grab a drink to boost my spirits but it was closed due to covid... of course. 

We got home and got to work on our pumpkins and were able to turn the day around. 

That hole is the rotting hole that came with the pumpkin. Melanie was a genius and just used it to make a bat. I didn't get a final picture but she did a great job and free handed it herself.

Hocus Pocus

Time for trick or treating! Melanie was the White Queen from Alice and Wonderland
Brandon was Bob Ross and the hit of the show. Everyone loved his hair and costume. He's been growing his hair out of months for this.
Audrey was the red queen from Alice in Wonderland and made her own skirt.
Many places didn't allow trick or treating this year. We decided we would only go around our little neighborhood circle. Since there weren't many trick or treaters a lot of the houses were handing out huge handfuls of candy. The kids ended up getting plenty of candy from just our neighborhood they didn't feel they missed out in anyway. We all ended up having a fantastic Halloween.

We had a halloween mutual activity I was in charge of. We made little ghost garlands and played Halloween bingo. It was a lot of fun and our first in person activity since March.

Happy New Year!

 We thought we’d bring some new energy to 2021 by completely tearing our house apart and getting our carpets cleaned. The cleaners were scheduled for December 30th, so we pulled everything out of bedrooms and gave the walls and baseboards a good scrub. In order to allow the carpets time to dry we didn’t want to walk on them so we used Elliott’s points and got a hotel up in the Woodlands. We stayed at the Marriott along the waterway and it was beautiful. There ended up being a storm that night which was unfortunate because we weren’t able to walk down the waterway and enjoy the whole scene up there. We ordered Shake Shack from Uber Eats and watched Hook all snuggled up in our beds. It was a perfect evening.  Once we returned home we got to work putting bedrooms back together then later that night celebrated the new year! Good Morning

Our kids don't sleep in. If they make it past 6:30 it's an extremely rare occasion. The problem with this is that Pete and I are not exactly morning folk. We make goals that say we will be in bed before 10pm, but after a week or so we are back to staying up way to late. Having Netflix is not helping either. We love watching documentaries and could watch them all night long. Every morning looks a little something like this. Our kids full of energy and ready to conquer the day, while Pete and I are wanting to kill ourselves.

December

There are a lot of words that could be used to describe 2020. Unpredictable, scary, death, political insanity, isolation, divisive, racial inequality, quarantine, masks etc. etc. It was really rough for us around June-October when we had no idea whether or not Elliott would have a job. Thankfully we were one of the lucky ones that didn't get furloughed. Financially speaking our biggest hit was that overtime was cut. We had big plans of paying off a lot of debt from law school and going on our first family trip to Disneyworld. Without that overtime we make about $2,000 less a month and it's quite a hit, but we are making it work. We canceled our Disneyworld trip and are living paycheck to paycheck but had Elliott been furloughed for an undermined amount of time I don't know what we would have done.
