Thanksgiving in AZ

In September we started talking about flying to Arizona for Thanksgiving but were nervous because we didn't know what state the pademic would be in. Currently all arlines are allowing cancelations with no fees up to the date of the flight. We decided to book and figured if we didn't feel good about it we could always cancel and use the tickets next summer. My dad has accumulated an enormous amount of American Express points at work and offered to get us first class tickets using his points if that would make us feel more comfortable. As the middle of November started getting closer the pandemic kept getting worst. All news sources and the CDC were discouraging any travel which caused Pete and I to kind of panic. We had to really think and consider what would be best for us and if this was a risk we wanted to take.

Ultimately our reasoning came down to the fact that the airplane filtration system is really good, we would be at the very front of the plane and not mixed in amongst a crowd of people. Once we were in Arizona we would be spending time with my family who all homeschool their kids and the guys all work together. I felt like as long as we were careful and mindful at the airport we should be fine.

I am so thankful we went. It was really quick and felt fast and furious, we flew in Wednesday and came home on Saturday. It was so rejuvenating to get out of our house and mingle with family. It was good for all of us and probably one of my favorite Thanksgiving's ever.

After we flew in on Wednesday we were able to meet up with Grandma Carolyn for a late lunch at Cafe Rio. I feel so lucky I get her as my mother in law, she has always been so warm and welcoming to me.

Melanie LOVES Granny's bread and was so thrilled she got to help make her rolls for Thanksgiving.
One of Brandon's very favorite things is to make a weird face in pictures.
We kept our Thanksgiving gathering small because of covid and it was so great. I am glad I grew up being close to both sides of my family but it felt really nice to not have a big get together and be able to spend that time with just my parents, siblings and their kids. This year we had Thanksgiving at Cam and Becca's house, they have a beautiful hug backyard that was perfect. My mom rented a bounce house for the kids and they all had the best time.

The next morning my parents had rented out a jungle gym place for the cousins to run and play. They had a great time

That evening we took family photos. Then went back to my parents house for pizza and pie.

The next morning was Emmry's baptism. It worked out that it happened to be the same weekend and we were able to make it.
Here's just some random pictures from the weekend.

Caught the boys in their natural habitat.
Audrey's favorite cousin is Grant.

As soon as we knew it we were flying back to Texas. It was a bummed saying goodbye but it couldn't have been a better weekend.

Happy New Year!

We thought we’d bring some new energy to 2021 by completely tearing our house apart and getting our carpets cleaned. The cleaners were scheduled for December 30th, so we pulled everything out of bedrooms and gave the walls and baseboards a good scrub. In order to allow the carpets time to dry we didn’t want to walk on them so we used Elliott’s points and got a hotel up in the Woodlands. We stayed at the Marriott along the waterway and it was beautiful. There ended up being a storm that night which was unfortunate because we weren’t able to walk down the waterway and enjoy the whole scene up there. We ordered Shake Shack from Uber Eats and watched Hook all snuggled up in our beds. It was a perfect evening.  Once we returned home we got to work putting bedrooms back together then later that night celebrated the new year! It’s become tradition for us to do taste tests with the kids blindfolded. We did different flavored oreo’s and ice drinks. We ordered Buffalo Wild Wings and wa...

Good Morning

Our kids don't sleep in. If they make it past 6:30 it's an extremely rare occasion. The problem with this is that Pete and I are not exactly morning folk. We make goals that say we will be in bed before 10pm, but after a week or so we are back to staying up way to late. Having Netflix is not helping either. We love watching documentaries and could watch them all night long. Every morning looks a little something like this. Our kids full of energy and ready to conquer the day, while Pete and I are wanting to kill ourselves.

December

There are a lot of words that could be used to describe 2020. Unpredictable, scary, death, political insanity, isolation, divisive, racial inequality, quarantine, masks etc. etc. It was really rough for us around June-October when we had no idea whether or not Elliott would have a job. Thankfully we were one of the lucky ones that didn't get furloughed. Financially speaking our biggest hit was that overtime was cut. We had big plans of paying off a lot of debt from law school and going on our first family trip to Disneyworld. Without that overtime we make about $2,000 less a month and it's quite a hit, but we are making it work. We canceled our Disneyworld trip and are living paycheck to paycheck but had Elliott been furloughed for an undermined amount of time I don't know what we would have done. I know there are many families in that situation and I wish we were in a position to offer some assistance instead of treading water. I feel very blessed and fortunate for where w...
